The survey results show Connecticut and New Jersey have the largest Asian Indian populations in the United States. The Great Plains and mountain states have the greatest concentration of Swedish ancestry. Michigan, Iowa, and South Dakota have large numbers of people with Dutch ancestry. Hawaii and California have large shares of residents of Chinese descent. Puerto Rican ancestry is most commonly found in the mid-Atlantic states and Florida. Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota are home to many residents with Norwegian ancestry. Scottish ancestry is most common in the northeast and Utah. Louisiana and the northeast have the most people of French descent living in the United States. Large numbers of people with American Indian ancestry live in Alaska, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. The mid-Atlantic region is home to many Americans of Italian ancestry.
