Preparing for Your Interview Appointment at the U.S. Consulate

When you go for your Consulate visit, plan to arrive about twenty minutes before your appointment. It’s likely that you will have to wait in line for your turn. Other people may be ahead of you, and it can take time to go through the process. Do not plan anything else for the day, as this may take most of your day and you won’t be able to rush things. This interview is very important, and you don’t want to be stressed out or worried about other things when you meet with the Consul. You will not be permitted to take any electronic devices into the U.S. Consulate (or Embassy, depending on where your interview is scheduled). This includes cell phones, iPods, PDAs, MP3 players, or tape recorders. In addition, you will not be allowed to take any food, drinks, liquids, perfumes, smoking materials, sprays, sealed envelopes, or sealed packages into the Consulate or Embassy. The Security Check

Your security check will include a full body scan by a metal detector. After that, you will provide fingerprints on a special fingerprinting device. To get your fingerprints, follow the instructions of the staff members. This part of the process should be quick and easy.

The Waiting Area

Once fingerprinted, you will go to another waiting area to wait for your interview. You should still have your documents on hand, and when your name is called, you will proceed to a numbered window. Once at the window, greet your interviewer and follow the directions that are given to you.
